Q+A With AZF Vendor Mackenzie

Hi all! Katie Bush writing again (marketing and volunteer guru for Murmur)… We’re super pumped about Atlanta Zine Fest 2015 and we hope you are too! Atlanta Zine Fest is an event that celebrates DIY and ephemeral media in Atlanta. We’ll have workshops, discussions, vendors, and more! We decided to make a mini series featuring a few of the AZF 2015 vendors so that you can get acquainted with some of our local talent!Patterns
Today’s feature is Mackenzie Brookshire, who makes the most amazing illustrations (seriously, check it out).

Katie- How would you describe AZF to someone who hasn’t been there before?
Mackenzie- I’ve never been! Very excited to get the chance to sell some fun little things and meet new people.
K- How did you decide what to sell at AZF?
M- Last year I finally decided I wanted to start printing my own stuff, so I drove to Tampa and bought two risographs that I found via Craigslist. I’ve just been kind of toying with it in my spare time since then, but having a table at AZF really pushed me to create some original, finished pieces. I have been drawing these little characters that I call Volcano People for a while and knew I wanted to make something of that. I also thought it would be a great opportunity to collab with some people, so I’m excited to have done a little of that too.
K- What’s the item you’re most excited to sell at AZF?
M- I worked on a piece with my buddy Jonathan Lawrence. We just made patterns. It’s kind of fun! I’ll have some prints for sale as well, and also some freebies. I figure if no one wants to buy anything I can at least force them to take something for free.
K- What AZF workshop or talk are you most excited about? Why?
M- The DIY printmaking workshop sounds promising!
